You’re Gonna Miss Me

In 1968 the lead singer of the 13th Floor Elevators, Roky Erickson, while performing at HemisFair, started speaking gibberish onstage.

He was sent to the hospital and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He was quickly forced to stay at the Houston psychiatric hospital, where he involuntarily received electroconvulsive therapy (shock therapy).

After a year of forced treatment he was released.  Shortly after his release in 1969, he was arrested in Austin, Texas with a single joint…

Facing 10 years in prison, he plead insanity and was sent again to psychiatric hospitals receiving more forced electroconvulsive therapy & Thorazine treatments until 1972…
