Honor America, Smoke In

In 1970 Nixon’s closest supporters organized Honor America Day after the U.S. Was wracked by protests following Nixon’s April 30 announcement that America was expanding the war in Vietnam by invading Cambodia.

The date chosen for the event was of course as patriotic as it gets, the Fourth of July!  Set to host this ‘Honor America Day’ for the supporters was comedian Bob Hope and evangelist Billy Graham.

Protesters had a different idea and commemorated Honor America Day by holding a “Smoke-in” to demand the legalization of marijuana.

As Reverend Billy Graham took the stage in front of the Lincoln Memorial, a sea of ‘Smoke-In’ protesters in a cloud of cannabis smoke started stripping off cloths and wading into the Reflection Pool.
