Band on the Run, 1972

“You didn’t run, you didn’t hide
And had you gone, you knew in time
We’d meet again for I had told you
Ooh, you were meant to be near me
Ooh, and I want you to hear me
Say we’ll be together every day
Got to get you into my life”

– Paul McCartney

Band on the Run

While relaxing backstage after a show in Gotenborg, Sweden in 1972, Paul & Linda Mccartney chatted with the entire band.  Just as the performance high was coming down, Swedish police came bursting through the greenroom doors arresting the entire band, Linda included!

Seems the police had intercepted a package addressed to a band member, when opened a half pound of hashish was discovered.  The band was forced to pay a 2,000 dollar fine for possession of hashish before they were all released…

The very next month Paul and Linda returned home to their Scottish property for some much deserved time off.  Just as they were getting comfortable, Scottish police raided the couples home finding 5 marijuana plants growing in the garden…

Paul McCartney Drug Bust – Scotland 1972

Paul’s official story was classic, seems a fan sent the McCartney’s a package of seeds knowing of the McCartney’s love for gardening.

So naturally they planted them all at their Scotland estate and in Paul’s own words ‘Five of them came up illegal’

For the crime of growing 5 cannabis plants in Scotland in 1972, the couple was fined £100 (about $240 at the time).

It would not be Paul’s last run in with the law for the ‘sweet leaf’… No worries, Paul didn’t give a fuck…
