If it Bleeds, It leads… Tigermelon x Dragonsblood f3 – Test run for Bodhi Seeds

If it Bleeds, It leads…

This was my journal for a test run for Bodhi Seeds of a pack of Tigermelon X Dragonsblood f3 a couple years ago.

Jumping right in to this line, lets see what we have for lineage…

Tigermelon x Dragonsblood f3 = (chem d x uzbekistani) x Hawaiian pipeline hashplant f3

The Dragonsblood f3 male is a backcross of Bodhi’s Hawaiian Pipeline Hashplant (Blood Pheno)

Here is Bodhi’s description of his Dragonsblood line

“i have been working on a secret project for a few years, not trying to be sneaky, just wanted to make sure i could pull it off before i spilled the beans. I’m about 75% done and things are going very well. its a new male, a male that brings with it a unique genetic marker. the male and its progeny bleed a dark red/violet high brix sap that resembles blood, along with a very different terpene signature and a beautiful uplifting high. originaly i called it just blood, but to not confuse people with the old Hawaiian sativa of the same name, i renamed the line dragons blood after the dark aromatic tree sap used by magians to ward of negative energies and infuse the work space with positive vibes. the line is based off a unique individual from the pipeline hashplant seeds, i sprouted all 23, and one plant had the red trait, I’m thinking it has hawiian blood ancestry deep in its genetics or it was crossed pollinated by the blood. the line dates from the mid nineties, and was bred by a kind soul with deep roots in islands cannabis heritage, he’s no longer with us but will live on through the seeds. in order to isolate the traits in blood specimen i took a pipeline male and crossed it to the blood, then grew out 33 of those looking for the blood trait, about 30% had the trait. i then took those plants and open pollinated them. the next wave had 50% blood traits. repeat the process, now were up to 70%. f1 hybrids with the line are showing a 50% blood traits. blood expressing hybrids of hybrids are showing 0% blood traits with a limited experiment of only 6 seeds. i think one more ix of the line and it will be pretty dominate, I’m hoping not so dominate that it takes over, the deadly g inbreeding taught me that further is not always better, its about balance and synergy. I’ve grown out the dragons blood hashplant (dragons blood f2 x 88g13hp) twice, she’s a beautiful frosty beauty, with that refreshing effect on the mind, body, and soul. testers with the f3 males are ready, and f4s will be popped soon. I’m not sure if i want the trait to stay within the f1’s and initial hybrid outcrosses or be dominate enough to move more freely into the greater gene pool.
the applications are novel and vast. put a hundred og’s in the room, not an easy task to tell them apart, but if one bleeds red you know which that one is. you can also link the trait to other traits making breeding easier by selecting for colored sap individuals. starting family lines and lineages from this royal blood pool will offer up endless possibilities. with deep gratitude and love, Its my pleasure to offer up this this true breeding scarlet cannabis treasure line for the community and the future…”

Bodhi’s Photo of his Tigermelon mom

The Mother of this cross is Bodhi’s Tigermelon which is from his earlier work consisting of Chem d x Uzbekistan.  A treasure on her own for sure…

Bodhi’s description of his Chem d x Uzbekistan line including his keeper the Tigermelon momma,

“the chem d x uzbeks came out outsanding, i have two plants i kept from that line…

uzbekistank: a funky hashplant supreme, big fruity musky chem buds with a full surround sound high… and..

tiger melon: chem d dom with insane frost and an aroma of honey rolled durbar sandalwood incense… “

Seeds soaked on a full moon, everyone popped and above soil 11/11

While our females were getting the eye of the tiger in their new pots,  I thought we could look at some males of the bunch. Looking like sativa frames with a nice stretch.  1 out of 5 males carried the dragonsblood bleeding trait.

The males who could resist showing balls at the party and the bleeder

Ended up having 5 females out of the seed pack.  1 bleeder out of the males, and 2 bleeders for the females.  Weird in that it seems to be almost a reaction that occurs when you cut, having a slight rush of red sap(be it only a drop) then it seems to soak into the fiber leaving a blood orange affect. When continued to be cut on the same branch it seems to stop after a couple. I’ll post 2 bleeding about 1min or so apart then a pic of a 3rd cut to the same branch that doesn’t bleed 4 min after initial cut.

While pinching one of the females for a little super cropping to control height, I noticed the bleeders bruised.

18 days in flower. Seeing 2 main pheno’s for growth one branching out nicely, one staying close to the main stalk while still having some stretch to the main.  Digging the smells as they get stronger, reminds me of the febreze commercials, dirty stank front end with a nice blooming Hawaiian flower finish.

A couple female Tigermelon x Dragonsblood f3 18days

Started to really put energy into bud production at day 28ish.  Some good stretch from a couple of these girls (at least doubling the nl they are in with) with nice aggressive branching. A couple choosing to stay close to the stalk throwing good resin production early. Also have some early color, reddish to purple, showing early on bottom sites of one of the girls. Interesting range of smells from the somewhat funky stank coming from the chem d side of things, some nice hash tones to a strong sweet blooming Hawaiian flower smell that is pretty intoxicating.

Day 28ish

Long running sativa spears seem to be the will of these ladies. Right around day 43 now and I’m expecting a stacking party like its the 90’s and the only entertainment given is some cups.

Getting a good amount of early trich’s with a fresh blooming floral hashy smell on one side to a darker leaf’d almost shiny, funky b.o’ish smelling girl with less branching.

long spear girl lets call her #1, fresh blooming flower with hashy tones around day 43. Guessing at least 70 with these girls.

#2 day 43

More running sativa bud structure with blooming floral notes around day 43

#3 day 43

Same structure, darker leaf’d with a mix of fresh and funky smells day 43ish

#5 day 43

Dense bud structure, dark shiny leaves on fairly branchless growth. early trich leader with a funky bo type whiff at day 43ish

#1 day 55

Filling in nicely on long long running sativa frames.

She has a bit to go yet. Smells she is giving off are getting fouler but still has a blooming flower kind of freshness twang that confuses my simple mind

#5 day 55

Very spear like with little branching. Full of trichs and sitting in a deep fry joint rubbing your belly button greasy. Has a nice strong foul odor I cant put my finger on yet but dirty dirty.

#5 day 55

Rounding day 60 with these ladies. Large running cola’s with good yields all around. Nice dense bud structure with some wild growth and foxtailing on some. Smells are getting fouler starting off with a blooming flower hash type to mixing in onions, bo ish and a fouler palette. Quite the war of the worlds in the smell department. Nice resin production on all.

#5 day 60

This one takes the cake in resin production and smell. Smells really close to Wasabi Funyuns, I loved those addictive little bastards and really had a flashback smell rubbing this lady, two fingers of course!

#1 day 60

Huge running sativa cola’s and a nice branching frame will make this lady yield out large. Buds are nice and dense covered in a nice dusting of trich’s. Smells like fresh blooming Hawaiian flowers with a hashy bo’ish type background.

#2 day 60

The kind you don’t take home to mother Smelling of fresh blooming flowers with a funyun hash background. Freaky foxtail from the top cola, always love me a freak.

Took most these girls down at day 70 flower. Large yield’s on branching frames providing dense resin encrusted jewels. Smells ranging from the extremely pleasant and unique blooming flower to the rancid funk almost wasabi like burn to the smell.

#5 day 70

Wasabi funyuns mixed with a foul BO, but very pleasant to the stoner nose smell, almost makes the eyes water a bit. This was the only pheno to not have a branching frame staying very mono cola style. Completely covered in resin, this girl will have me smelling my fingers for hours after a good fondle. This one picking up some nice purple hue’s at finish.

#2 harvest day 70

One of my favorites #2 finished with lots of red shades. A delicate blend of funky foul blooming flower, smelling like your sitting in a field of blooming flowers eating funky funyun’s. Some funky foxtailing growth with a dense structure that did real good even in lower light areas and a branching structure made her yield very well. Plenty of resin to cake up the pipe.

#1 day 73

Took this girl down at day 73, large yielding sativa girl with nice branching structure and a good stretch. Smells just like the scene in the Sound of Music, when Maria was spinning in a clean fresh mountain field of blooming flower’s. Unique terp profile, never really got the onion funk the rest seem to have, all fresh and clean.

#3 100+days

Solid producing sativa girl is the longest of the bunch rounding day 96. Like sweet and sour chicken I can’t tell if this girl is fresh or funky. Like having some garlicish B.O action happening in your car, so you click a mountain spring air freshener in the a/c vent sending a mixed waft up the ol nose holes. She ended up going a couple days over 100.

Smoke report time…

Sample is my keeper Pheno #2

Appearance–  tight but fluffy sativa structure (reminds me of Apollo11) but covered on every tip with trichs.  Little bit of color on some but mostly lime green and orange with Christmas morning snow.

Smell– Upon breaking into a bud smells of perfectly ripe blooming flowers perk the nose soon followed by the end of a parade type funk, with a onionish, eucalyptusish chem type tone.

Taste– Have you ever smelled a perfectly blooming flower and tried to taste its petals only to be disappointed with the outcome?  Well upon first inhale the taste of blooming flowers, yup a childhood goal accomplished, floral type taste washes over the mouth. Upon exhale, first is a sweet floral layer with a nice coating quality followed by the same onionish type funk all the while staying sweet and floral.

Effect– Loved Super Silver Haze back in the day and this really reminded me of her. A nice rushing sativa ride that starts a bit active with a great eye burning effect that lets you know your there before the confused active projects begin.  Great day smoke with good legs and very little burnout.
