Cannabis Camouflage, 1916

‘Australian fighters pose with a captured Turkish sniper disguised as a cannabis bush’.  The Turkish sniper was photographed immediately after capture while he was being brought in under guard. He was camouflaged by a Jack-in-the-Green arrangement of cannabis foliage attached to his clothing.     Gallipoli peninsula, Turkey  1916

This photograph was taken during what is now known as the ‘Battle of Gallipoli’ in which the allied powers attempted a ground invasion against the Ottoman empire on the Gallipoli peninsula in modern day Turkey, hoping to capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople.

Snipers have always been trained to use native vegetation that is abundance for their camouflage, this would lead one to believe cannabis was very prevalent on this battle field.

Here’s a couple more shots from the Battle of Galliopoli in 1915/16

Notice all the nice cannabis plants growing wild.
